List traffic sources
Start with where people enter the journey. Different acquisition channels may require different context on the first page.
List the decision steps
Write each action the visitor must take in order: click, read, opt in, watch, compare, book, purchase, or activate.
Give every step a job
Label the purpose of each page or message. If you cannot explain why a step exists, remove it from the first version.
Mark conversion events
Identify the transition you will measure at each important point. This turns the map into an analytics plan.
Add follow-up
Include emails, reminders, onboarding, and post-purchase communication. The customer journey is larger than the visible pages.
