How to Funnel Hack a Competitor Step by Step

A practical workflow for finding active competitor funnels, mapping each step, extracting patterns, and turning them into original experiments.

Measure what happens

1. Define the market

Choose the specific offer category and customer you are researching. Narrow comparisons produce more useful insights than studying unrelated funnels simply because their designs are impressive.

2. Find active competitors

Use search results, public ad libraries, social channels, email lists, and direct brand research to identify businesses visibly acquiring customers in the same market.

3. Enter as a prospect

Start at the first touchpoint and move through the journey legitimately. Record the promise, call to action, form fields, next page, emails, checkout flow, and any post-purchase steps you can observe.

4. Build a funnel map

Document the sequence, such as ad → opt-in → thank-you page → email → sales page → checkout. Add the job of each step and the objection it appears designed to resolve.

5. Create an original test

Separate the pattern from the protected asset. You can learn from a two-step checkout or webinar sequence without copying copy, images, proof, branding, or code. Implement one original hypothesis and measure it.
